Home en root

I’ve lived so many places… home is the music I carry inside.

Music was the means through which Sarah came to know herself and contributes to her resilience and inner confidence. In an attempt to empower others, she shares her story through the building and touring of her ongoing show, Home en root, which combines original composed world music, narrative, poetry, and movement.

This show is an experience like no other. It’s more than a concert — it invites the audience into a shared space. A “mostly-solo show”, it features my personal story as an International artist and the ultimate search for Home. Having had a unique life journey — including international adoption, violin lessons from age 3, studying violin-making in the Mormon capital of the world, sculpting in NYC, and conducting orchestra in India — I’m grateful to have lived a colorful, unique life.

My ability to traverse so many cultures and people has given me fierce resilience, a true sense of openness and a unique, creative perspective. Home en route is a carefully crafted performance celebrating the beautiful musical traditions I've encountered including Western Classical, Indian Classical, Flamenco, Arabic, Jazz, Latin and Gypsy music. It features my own, original compositions, going beyond the generic "fusion" world music we often hear. While the genres vary, I attempt to weave them seamlessly, letting my authentic creative approach and the connection to the audience be the unifying factors. As well, the violin has a strong presence throughout the show, as it’s my greatest means of expression. Beyond the music, at times brief narrative and poetry will be orchestrated to enhance and unify the show’s overall vitality. Home en route speaks with a soul as it’s a story that must be told. I humbly say that my violin touches many who hear it. I also play the sarangi, sing, and write, and move. It is more than a variety show as I attempt to intertwine familiar elements in new light— allowing a tasteful, enjoyable and connective experience for audience members. It features 10 original compositions, predominantly featuring my primary instrument, the violin. I experiment with unaccompanied works as well as inviting special guests on world instruments, to ensure both substantial variety and creativity to hold an audience successfully.  It is an ever-unfolding sophisticated, artistic, raw, and accessible show that I am proud to share.
